Today is the raising day of India's primary border guarding force , Border Security Force
The Border Security Force, or the BSF is India's primary border police force and one of the five Central Police Forces of the Union of India. It celebrates its 52nd aniversary today founded in 1965 after the Indo-Pak war. BSF is the world's largest border guarding force with 257,363 Active Personnels and they live by the motto "जीवन पर्यन्त कर्तव्य" (Duty Unto Death). It is the only Indian paramilitary force with its own Marine and Air wings and Artillery regiments that support the general duty battalions in their operations.
BSF was founded by K.F. Rustamji the only police officer in India, thus far to have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan . BSF which has been termed as the "First Line of Defence" for Indian borders stands guard for India's land border during peacetime and preventing transnational crime. They have participated in a wide range of conflicts such as 1971 Indo-Pak War , Operation Bluestar , Operation Vijay , Operation Parakram and COIN Operations in Kashmir.
BSF has an expanding air wing, marine wing, artillery regiments, and commando units which makes it an exemplary force with much resources at its deployment. They have an elite force called the Creek Commando Force that mans the hostile creek area of Pak-bordering Gujarat. Peace-time or war, the BSF is always at work - defending the borders during war, and guarding and preventing trans-border crime during peace-time. This law enforcement force has the biggest women's contigents. Numerous women hold significant positions including those of combat ranks.
Let's take a moment to thank the sentinels who guard our nation borders during our peacetime keeping where they operate far from family and friends in an area surrounded by snow and barbed wires.
